No doubt, the selection of beautiful beads these days is incredible – and a bit overwhelming, too! I love just about any and all beads, but I am particularly enamored with glass beads from the Czech Republic.
Bead manufacturing in the Czech Republic is a cottage industry. Bead-making “factories” are usually family-based businesses that are run out of bead artists’ homes. The fact that these beads are handcrafted can be seen in the uniqueness of each individual bead – even when they are on the same strand!
This uniqueness is one of the many things that draws me to Czech glass beads. Because each bead is one-of-a-kind, it lends itself to the organic feel of beadwork, and the end result is that each finished piece is also truly being one-of-a-kind. Sometimes the difference from bead-to-bead (and batch-to-batch) is subtle, and sometimes it is significant, but it is always there, beckoning that the bead was created by human hands and not a machine.
At the same time, Czech glass bead sizes are wonderfully consistent, which makes it possible to easily recreated beaded pieces when following a pattern. So Czech glass beads offer the best of both worlds: artistic individuality combined with consistent– and therefore very workable – sizing!
Czech glass beads are available in seemingly endless options in style, color, and size. You can find a wide range of Czech glass seed beads…or fire polished beads….or pressed glass beads…or melon beads…or multi-hole beads….the list goes on and on! If you like sparkly beads, you can find them. If you prefer earth tone beads, no problem. If neon beads are your thing, the selection is a little more limited, but they are there. No matter what you are looking for, I have no doubt you can find a Czech glass bead that will fit the bill.
Likewise, the way Czech glass beads can be used it also endless. Because of the wide range of sizes and styles they are available in, they are ideal for anything from bead weaving to stringing to wire-wrapping to embroidery and just about anything in between!
